2006 Upper Peninsula Wilderness Air Tour
Every year, the Michigan Aviation Association puts on the Michigan Air Tour, where a sizeable group of GA aircraft from across the State visit various airports spreading the message of economic development. In 2006, the tour was entirely flown in the U.P to emphasize how valuable the aviation infrastructure is in the U.P. Of course, Luce County Airport and Newberry, the Moose Capital of Michigan, was one of the stops! Many of Newberry's community members along with county Ambassadors made their way to the Luce County Airport to view the numerous planes that flew in for the spectacular event! We would like to thank our sponsors, vendors, & everyone involved for their support!
Ninety-Nines Northwoods Chapter Paints Compass on Runway
Luce County Airport received some new direction thanks to the talent and dedication of a regional group of female pilots. Members of the Northwoods Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, comprised of women throughout the Upper Peninsula, north-central Wisconsin and Canada, descended on the local airport in Newberry to paint a “compass rose” on the concrete tarmac at the facility. To add a little color, a large moose head - the iconic animal of the area – was painted in the middle of the compass!
Thank you for this wonderful work!
Join us for a fun and friendly time every second Saturday of the month. Next gatherings are on July 12th and August 9th. Don't miss this chance to connect with other pilots and aviation enthusiasts! Call Jay for time and information at 906-293-2926.
